Notes:

After 1945 there was a huge growth in international telephone and telegraph traffic.
The Post Office transmitting station at Rugby was expanded with a complete new station equipped with 28 of the latest design 30 Kilowatt transmitters, installed by the Marconi Company and brought into service in October 1954.

This new generation of transmitters embodied the latest remote control technology and could be pre-set to a number of crystal controlled frequencies. Tuning was achieved using servo mechanisms and frequency changes were controlled from a remote control console.

These developments increased service availability and required less manpower.

The appearance of a transmitter now changed with everything hidden behind plain cabinet doors protected by safety interlocks.
