BRUCE INVERTED ‘V’
Notes:
Returning to antenna technology:
Most of the short wave antenna systems had been developed on similar principles to the Franklin Beams. Large tuned arrays designed by Bruce, Sterba, Walmsey etc.
These antennas were limited to single frequency operation and hence were a great expense in the operation of a global radio network.
A breakthrough came in 1931 with the design of the inverted ‘V’ antenna.
Initially designed at the Bell Laboratories by Bruce as a tuned antenna, it developed into the Rhombic antenna, capable of broadband operation and considerably more economic in terms of installation and maintenance.
