MARCONI BEAM RECEIVER

Notes:

This shows one of the first commercial HF receivers designed for the Beam System receiver by G. A. Mathieu.

The picture above shows two Short Wave receivers mounted on a frame in the receiving station at Dhond, in India.

It was a tunable super-het with the majority of amplification in low frequency ‘IF’ stages where higher gain could be extracted from the valve amplifiers.

The IF bandwidth was relatively wide to allow for the drift of both the transmitter and receiver at a time when local oscillators were LC. not crystal controlled.
This receiver was required to provide reception of high speed morse on an undulator (slip) so included audio and detected outputs.
